A slender and elegant bar stool from Norway is among those products nominated for Germany’s most distinguished design award, Designpreis Deutschland
It is our own Variér® Eight that received the nomination, facing stiff competition from a series of international design products
The Norwegian bar stool was nominated for the design prize by the German Design Council, a committee seated under the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.
The stool was designed by Olav Eldøy, who also designed the more widely known Peel chair for Variér®.
This chair is now sold in more than 35 countries, and naturally we hope that Variér® Eight will also gain the same level of popularity among design-minded customers.
-We are delighted with the nomination and see this as confirmation that our innovation strategy is on the right track, says satisfied design director Arild Åkre.
-This stool is designed entirely in keeping with our core philosophy: it is beautiful to look at, but because it is designed on the basis of human need, it is also nice to sit on for a while, says Åkre.
2010’s main prize winners for product design included the prestigious Audi A5 Coupe.
In 2009 the Variér® Eight won a prize for good design in Norway through the Norwegian Design Council.
The final winner will be selected in February 2011.
